Lobbyists need more than money to succeed at the Capitol

Great article but I still want to hear from my constituents on issues. The average vote is based on 3-4 calls/emails on an issue.

OK failing in efforts to reduce tobacco use

As a member of the advocacy group that created our first state legislation dealing with the ill affects of tobacco use in the late 90's, I am discouraged that we are still faced with serious health costs related to diseases caused by smoking. Sadly many of the diseases that cost this state billions are preventable. We must do better!

Oklahoma’s tobacco numbers
$1.62 billion – health care costs due to smoking
7,490 – annual deaths attributed to smoking
31.4 percent – high school tobacco use rate
26.9 percent – adult tobacco use rate
